Workplace Wellness with Essential Oils

Workplace Wellness

With Essential Oils

Many of my clients, friends and family, have shared some of the inconveniences of working in an office.  Sharing your space in close proximity to others on a daily basis, could present some uncomfortable situations at times I would imagine.

stressful-job-400_0

It is challenging to be productive, energetic, and sometimes even pleasant, if one is suffering from a headache, stomach ache, bad breath, body odor, others body odor, PMS, neck and shoulder tension, or the creepy, rude, and dwightsarcastic co-worker who brings in the negativity.

bodyodorWhat if you could have your own personal remedies for all of the above, right at your desk?

Great news!  You CAN!  I would like to share a few tips on how you can incorporate essential oils into your lifestyle whether it be at work, or…at home.

I have many resources on my website explaining Essential Oil use and why it is important to only use the purest quality and highest therapeutic grade oils available. You can read more about that here!

To avoid overwhelming you, I will give you just a few of my favorite versatile oils that can be used to help control many symptoms.

(I carry these oils with me everywhere and have been the “go to” gal in so many circumstances!  Ballgames, dinner with friends, on-site corporate wellness jobs when I need to freshen up, all day seminars when I need to focus, caught out in nature without my bug spray (make my own with essential oils btw….),  and when I’m going to be spending time with people who are Debbie Downers;)

Peppermint Essential Oil

Common uses of Peppermint Essential Oil

  • Alertness – Great oil for after lunch when you need a little pick me up!  Just open the bottle and smell!
  • Helpful in reducing pain – headaches, shoulders, neck, and muscle tightness caused by tension and stress!
  • G.I. distress – Indigestion, abdominal cramps, gas, constipation, nausea and diarrhea.
  • Body Temperature.  Has been helpful in reducing fevers and cooling for skin….i.e.hot flashes.

( I fill small glass spray bottles (2 oz) with peppermint or thieves essential oil, mixed with distilled water, and use as a deodorant, breath spray, air freshener, and hand sanitizer!)

Lavender Essential Oil

Common uses of Lavender Essential Oil

  • Calming oil that has been useful for reducing stress and anxiety (creepy rude co-worker is less bothersome;)
  • Allergies, itching, and skin irritations
  • May also be helpful for headaches
  • Beneficial in reducing odor due to its antimicrobial properties

Lavender is a universal oil that has been known to balance the body and to work wherever there is need.

Thieves Essential Oil

The highly antiviral and antiseptic properties of thieves, help protect the body fromthe onset of the flu, colds, and other viruses.  I ALWAYS keep thieves around!  This potent blend can be used for so many purposes including bad breath, odors and as a hand sanitizer.

It is important to educate yourself on proper use of the oils prior to using.  Many of the oils should be diluted with a carrier oil to reduce the potency and possible skin sensitivity!

I was a washed up fifty two year old pitcher still trying to make it in the big leagues, and as predicted three weeks into the baseball season my arm was hanging off my shoulder. As I was pondering my third retirement speech I remembered a project one of my student’s did on a massage therapist located here in Greencastle so with nothing to lose I thought I’d give it a try and that’s when I met Amy. In three weeks not only did she have me back on the mound but I finished the season strong and my recuperation period after the season was much shorter than in previous years. Why do I think this experience went so well? Amy is a pro; she has magic fingers that located all of my problem areas along with other problematic injuries that I was unaware of. Amy also took a real interest in my particular injury by doing additional research and follow-up with other colleagues and sport injury experts which was dually noted and much appreciated. Prior to this experience I knew nothing about massage therapy or Amy, but now I’m a believer in both. Amy makes you feel very comfortable, she’s easy to communicate with, and most importantly she was honest (I wanted to rush my comeback) whether I liked it or not. So to anyone who may read this, I assure you that you are in good hands. And to Amy, thank you for giving me a fighting chance to do an activity that I love. My sincere thanks and I’ll see you next season!

My wife and I have enjoyed massages for many years and in different venues in the U.S., overseas, and on-the-seas, so we have acquired a lot of experience in judging the skills of massage givers, male and female. It is very gratifying to be able to report that five years ago we met Amy soon after she arrived in Greencastle. It was immediately evident that here “in our own backyard” was a skilled therapist with a desire to deliver the best therapy for each client by customizing each session to the needs and wants of the individual. We depend on our regular sessions with her to keep us moving and feeling well. Her skills and practice are a great asset to Greencastle. You Go Girl!

"As a competitive athlete over the last 20 years including 2x Ironman finishes (140.6) I have had my share of injuries and have battered my body along the way. After a huge race season in 2013; including two half Ironman distance triathlons (70.3) my body had taken a beating and I was badly injured and unable to move let alone run. I had spent 10 weeks at local hospital “sports rehabilitation center” with little or no improvement in mobility and pain. After weeks of frustration, luckily, I had the pleasure to meet and work with Amy Buckles. After a quick conversation Amy was eager to work with me and was confident she could help! I have seen many therapists over the years and I knew with in my first visit Amy was going to get me back and get me back quickly! We set up a game plan with a series of visits to her, rest, and a return to training plan. I was back to running within three weeks and within six weeks I was back on my full blown triathlon training program to get ready to the 2014 season. Not only did Amy just focus on my injury’s she worked on my entire body to prevent injury, increase flexibility and improve overall performance! I would recommend Amy Buckles to anyone; the hard core athletes, the weekend warriors, the recreational folks, office workers, and even the sedentary folks! Amy’s passion for her work, her desire to help, her knowledge, and the flexibility of scheduling and payment plans, have been the BEST I have experienced! As I head towards the New York Marathon in 2014 and Ironman Triathlon in 2015 Any Buckles in going to be part of my team! Thank you Amy! I look forward to working with you...

I have been seeing Amy for the past couple years for massage therapy. Sitting in front of a computer all day leaves me with a stiff neck and often a sore back. Amy has been amazing, helping me relieve pain, tension and stress. She really knows her work and does a great job! I'd see her more often if my schedule allowed it! I recommend Amy to anyone needing massage work, from just needing a relaxing massage to needing some serious deep tissue massage, she is it! She is also great with kids as she has worked on one of my children who was having issues due to always carrying a very heavy backpack!

I used to think I only needed a massage once a year until I met Amy Buckles. For the past four years I have been getting massages from Amy regularly. She is very attentive and concentrates on problem areas. I always leave feeling restored and relaxed, and, I smell good! That’s because Amy uses Young Living Essential Oils. (You should try the Raindrop massage!) I especially enjoy Thieves. I diffuse it into the air to kill germs and use Thieves mouth wash. Lemon is awesome for cleaning and I use Lavender on my throat for coughs and for a restful sleep. A year ago Amy introduced the Bio Mat. I really need to buy one! Not only is it like a giant heating pad, it is made up of negative ions and amethyst crystals, along with infrared heat, which aids in body detox. My husband thought I was crazy, but he now visits Amy on a regular basis. After feeling the positive effects massage had on him, he hired Amy to come to his office to give his employees a 15 minute chair massage. He especially enjoys the Bio Mat after a tough work out. It seems that the BioMat decreases the amount of soreness he usually experiences post workout. Amy continuously is doing homework and research to make her business even more successful. You can tell she “loves” her job because she is always enthusiastic and joyful. Not only does Amy provide massage, knowledge and a great attitude, she makes you feel comfortable and welcome.
